Digital Innovators to Connect at PSU Conference: December 11-12 event builds capacity for growing business

Digital Innovators to Connect at PSU Conference: December 11-12 event builds capacity for growing business

4th Annual Digital Marketing Conference

Portland, OR (PRWEB) November 18, 2011

With every new social media platform, mobile application, or digital device, businesses and organizations must adapt to remain competitive and relevant—technology doesn’t follow business cycles or the calendar year. So how can businesses and marketers stay up to speed in a world that changes faster than the seasons?

Important answers are found each year at the Digital Marketing Conference (DMC) at Portland State University. During this leading-edge business-development event, creative professionals gather to share ideas, learn from one another, and build the region’s economic competitiveness.

Now in its fourth year, the 2011 DMC will present award-winning Web strategists and authors, online content designers, and social media experts. The conference will be held December 11-12 in Lincoln Hall at PSU. Business owners, emerging creative leaders, and students will be engaged through national keynote speakers, a digital marketing “boot camp,” and high-speed “Ignite” presentation sessions.

“In having the best speakers and a collaborative learning environment, we continue to build Portland’s reputation as an epicenter for digital marketing and to further establish brands and businesses across the region,” says Jennifer Portis, program manager for the Multimedia Professional Program at Portland State.

DMC 2011 sponsors include Whole Foods, KGW, Crowd Compass, WebRanking, and Webvisions. Byron Beck, Portland’s well-known writer and media personality, will serve as a conference emcee.

An agency-sponsored kickoff party and PSU-sponsored wrap party will add to the experience and create opportunities for professional networking. Agency sponsors include Mambo Media, Roll 35, and Anvil Media, Inc.

“I believe that marketers and communication professionals need to spend more time listening and taking action,” says Michael Brito, a featured DMC speaker and senior vice president for social business planning at Edelman Digital in San Francisco. “If brands treat their customers with kindness and respect, customers will love them back and tell others about those brands.”

The DMC serves Portland’s business and nonprofit communities while recognizing the creative professionals and agencies in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Conference highlights will include an interactive keynote presentation on “The Connected Company,” by Tom Bennett and Roel Uleners of the Dachis Group; Monday keynote presentations by Michael Brito, Tim Frick (Mightybytes, author of Return on Engagement), and Marsha Collier (best-selling author, eBay for Dummies). Drew Blevins of TriMet will present “What Makes This Place Great,” TriMet’s new rider-engagement campaign. Two Ignite sessions will run Monday afternoon and feature 5-minute speed presentations by over 20 organizations, including Oregon Health & Sciences University, ISITE Design, and The Regence Group.

The Digital Marketing Conference is presented by the Multimedia Professional Program, part of the Professional Development Center at PSU. The Multimedia Professional Program offers over 50 stand-alone courses and three multimedia certificates.

Visit http://www.pdxdmc.com for further details and updates, schedule, speaker, and session information, and registration.

Utah Company Announces BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) Conference

Utah Company Announces BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) Conference

Provo, UT (PRWEB) May 19, 2009

A company from Utah thinks it knows how to change the face of the technology conference industry. Rapid Intake Conferences has announced a new brand of technology conferences called BYOL, which stands for Bring Your Own Laptop (http://www.byol.com ). The first BYOL conference, called BYOL eLearning 2009, will be held October 20-22 in Salt Lake City and is for e-Learning professionals (http://elearning.byol.com ).

“The idea behind this new line of conferences is simple,” says Isaac Hess, Director of Conferences and Events for Rapid Intake. “Every session in these conferences will have a hands-on experience. And when I say every session, I mean every session. These will be the only conferences of their kind in the entire industry. No one else is doing this, and we’re really excited.”

Rapid Intake Conferences, a division of Rapid Intake Inc., first came up with the idea of an all hands-on conference while hosting a separate annual eLearning conference, eLearning DevCon (http://www.elearndevcon.com). For the past three years eLearning DevCon has offered a number of hands-on sessions. These sessions grew so popular that Hess and his colleagues began considering an entire BYOL conference.

At last year’s eLearning DevCon conference they finally decided to put it to the test. During the keynote banquet event they gave each attendee a small voting device so that they could get instant results. They then pitched the idea of an all hands-on conference and asked them to rate their interest.

Hess laughs about what happened next: “We didn’t even get to the voting! Halfway through our explanation of what the conference would be like, everyone started clapping and cheering. It was right then that we knew we had an idea people would be interested in.”

The first conference, BYOL eLearning 2009, will be held in October, with two more planned in 2010. After the eLearning conference Rapid Intake Conferences will turn its attention to a BYOL Flash/Flex conference, and then later a conference for those interested in Web 2.0.

Asked why he is so confident about BYOL’s success, Hess is sanguine: “It’s simple, really. Most conferences are pretty expensive, and with the current economic climate, business are looking for conferences that will deliver: conferences where people will actually learn something. Business aren’t going to spend money on just any conference. They’re going to look for a good investment. BYOL conferences are the good investment they’ve been looking for.”

ANOVA Science Education Corporation President to Talk on Scientific Inquiry at the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) National Conference on Science Education

Honolulu, HI (PRWEB) April 5, 2006 –

ANOVA Science Education Corporation (ANOVA Science; http://www.anovascience.com) announced today that its President and developer of the Research Investigation Progress (RIP™) scientific inquiry program for grades K-12, Dr. Robert E. Landsman, will deliver three presentations, including one invited, at the National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) National Conference on Science Education to be held in Anaheim, California on April 6-9, 2006. The talks will discuss scientific inquiry as an instructional tool for developing critical thinking skills and learning science in the context of standards and research-based practices. In “Using Scientific Inquiry to Revamp Thinking and Process in Science Education,” Dr. Landsman will describe elements of and student and teacher products resulting from a seven year implementation of a RIP-based scientific inquiry program at a high school. Long-term impact data will also be presented indicating the profoundly positive effect that the program had on the lives of students as they continued on in their education and in their careers well after they graduated high school. This talk will be delivered on April 6, 12:30-1:30 PM at the Anaheim Marriott.

Dr. Landsman will also join Hawaii Department of Education’s Honolulu District Resource Teacher Ms. Irene Kamimura in a co-presentation, “Effective Inquiry-based Professional Development Leads to Successful Inquiry-based Student Learning,” featuring scientific inquiry professional development strategies, instructional techniques, and evidence of successful outcomes obtained from professional development workshops and classroom implementation. Teacher and student products addressing state and National Science Education Content, Teaching, Assessment, and Professional Development Standards will be described. This talk will be delivered on April 7, 5:00-6:00 PM at the Anaheim Marriott.

As invited speaker at the “Exemplary Practices Symposium on Grades 9–12 Science Programs” at the Anaheim Marriott on April 7 at 8:00 AM, Dr. Landsman will describe some of the salient features of the RIP pointed out by former RIP teachers and students and their parents and present evidence that these features led to successful student and teacher outcomes. He will also describe some of the apparent commonalities of these features across the other science education programs selected as exemplary by NSTA based on a goodness-of-fit with visions elaborated in the National Standards. “It is a privilege to participate in this national conference and to be able to share with educators across the country student and teacher success stories resulting from the use of the RIP program to address student achievement in science. Recognition from the leading national organization in K-12 science education is an honor,” commented Dr. Landsman.

Recently highlighted in NSTA’s Exemplary Science series volume, “Exemplary Science in Grades 9-12,” the RIP, a scientific research-based program, has been recognized as one of the Nation’s 15 Exemplar Program in high school science based on evidence of student success in education and life-long learning skills. Linking thirty years of scientific research experience and fifteen years of teaching, Dr. Landsman has merged his knowledge, experience, and skills as educator and scientist into this K-12 program aligned with the National Science Education Standards.

ANOVA Science Education Corporation, located in Teaneck, NJ and Honolulu, HI, assists schools in implementing scientific-research-based science education programs, providing students with critical thinking and decision-making tools for life-long learning skills that support economic growth and the maintenance of security in the USA. The corporation recently developed a subdivision, ANOVA Science Publishing, to coordinate all of its science education products, which include instructional books and posters featuring the RIP scientific inquiry program. The company’s newest product is “Look at Me Now,” a guided inquiry book written for teachers of all grades. As sole distributor of products and services associated with the Research Investigation Process (RIP™) inquiry-based science education program for K-12 schools, the contribution of ANOVA Science’s vision, services, and products toward the nation’s movement for science education reform has been recognized and is well-received by national and state education organizations. ANOVA Science’s activities and services include professional development workshops, seminars, and projects; teacher coaching and mentoring; curriculum development addressing state and National Standards; and publishing education materials available online at http://www.anovascience.com. British Council to Introduce “Education Intelligence,” a New Global Service Devoted to International Higher Education, at NAFSA 2011 Annual Conference

(PRWEB) May 24, 2011

The British Council will introduce EDUCATION INTELLIGENCE, a new global service devoted to international higher education, to the North American market at the NAFSA 2011 Annual Conference, to be held in Vancouver, BC, Canada, from May 29-June 3, 2011.

This market intelligence service provides research and analysis about international higher education trends to education institutions, policymakers and individuals in the academic community.

Accurate and reliable market intelligence is essential in locating effective partnerships and creating solid collaborations. Education providers need to know trends in student mobility flows and current national policies to make strategic decisions. EDUCATION INTELLIGENCE is designed to help academic institutions navigate the shifting global landscape via information about student mobility trends and decision-making, global partnerships and country-specific international education environments.

“This platform will help expand connections between the UK and its international partners,” says Jazreel Goh, head of business development, Education Intelligence Team, British Council. “We hope the service will connect the world with the UK through the development of strategic partnerships, policy innovation and the generation of new knowledge.”

EDUCATION INTELLIGENCE has four product lines available for purchase on its website:

COUNTRY BRIEFS

Get a handle on the economic, demographic and education issues of a given country in a clear, complete report.

STUDENTS IN MOTION

Pinpoint trends that can indicate future movement of students from one country to another.

STUDENT INSIGHT

Discover what influences decision-making, from parents to personal aspirations to scholarships, in country-specific reports.

GLOBAL GAUGE

Three aspects of internationalization — student mobility, academic and research collaboration, and national policies – are examined.

In addition, Dr. Janet Ilieva, Head of Research for EDUCATION INTELLIGENCE, and research manager Elizabeth Shepherd will both be presenting at the NAFSA conference. Information regarding EDUCATION INTELLIGENCE will be available at booths 1711 and 1713.
